Jomblo

Title : Jomblo

Writer : Aditya Mulya

Year : 2003

Language : Indonesian

I bought and read this book when I was in the third grade of high school. This is the first time I read a book very enthusiastically and fast. I remind you that I wasn’t a good book reader so it would take a very long time to read a book. However, magically, I read the book very fast just because I loved it very very very much!!!

Generally, it talks about love in the eyes of a man. Interesting right?? Particularly, a man who has an affair with the other girl. Well, as a feminist, I certainly do not agree with this kind of idea. But, the fact is that the story is very interesting! We can see the meaning of love and maturity in the eyes of different people.

It’s about Agus who haven’t had a girlfriend yet. He feels so bored becoming a “jomblo” (in Indonesian it means “single” or “having no boy or girl”). So, then he meets his junior high school female friend, and they get steady. Unfortunately, the girl is a kind of horrible girl who dictates him everyday, and demands everything without thinking it first. Agus get bored being in that kind of relationship. And yes, he meets the other girl, and after a very weird way, he get the girl, simply having a fair with her. After undergoing this affair, he then will know what is meant to be mature.

Doni is a playboy. He doesn’t want be stuck in any relationship. He just does some sex, and say goodbye to the girls he fucks. Unfortunately (again), he meets a girl whom his best friend crush on. He is likely to forget his friend and fuck that girl. Suddenly, they become a couple, truly couple. Doni has changed, but he has to accept the responsibility.

Olip is desperate to death to get a love in his life. He is the stupidest guy in the group of four. Simply, he never gets a girl. Not any one.

The story teaches us how to be mature in relationship, love relationship especially. And also, it teaches us how to face our best friend betraying us. As a girl, once again even I’m a feminist, I can get a great lesson of men’s point of view about love, friendship, and maturity.

The only weakness of the book is the language. The writer didn’t learn much about how to write, so his language is quite awkward. Oh, before I forgot, the book is very funny. Even it’s quite sarcastic, but it’s very funny and lively. Indeed.
